About Us
Let's start at the beginning. A very good place to start. (Did you musical buffs catch that Sound of Music Reference? But seriously, let's start that the beginning. My name is Liz. I get side tracked easily and that may or may not come through in my posts. I joke a lot and then quickly say "but seriously," and that may or may not come through in my posts.
My husband Austin and I met in high school, quickly became best friends, fell in love, and just got married in July 2010, almost 6 years after we met for the first time.
We're loving life as newlyweds and embarking on an exciting cooking adventure too! Most of the recipes I blog about will be ones that I come up with myself or ones that I have created from changing around existing recipes. We are really just looking to eat food that is exciting and healthy while still being relatively cheap to make. For more a detailed reasoning of our decision to eat this way, check out our first post.
The title of the blog? In the bible (Matthew 6: 9- 13) Jesus is teaching his disciples how to pray (also known as the Lord's prayer). Among the things he teaches them, he says to ask the Father to "give us our daily bread." In other words, to ask the Lord to provide the things we need. All throughout our relationship, during our season of engagement, and especially now, we have been provided for so well, in a way we do not deserve. (This is not false humility, we are not saying we are wretched, just that Jesus has been so faithful to love on us and provide for our needs in ways we could never ask for or earn. If you want to be super-encouraged, feel free to ask us about specific instances of how we were ridiculously provided for.
But why should we be surprised by this? In Matthew 6:26, Jesus reminds us how well the Father provides for the needs of the birds of the sky. He explains how much more valuable we are to the Lord, so how much more will he faithfully provide for our needs. The blog title is just an expression of our excitement at finally being a family and having a household together as well an acknowledgment of the Lord's provision and a claim of that promise that he has and will continue to give us everything we need (our daily bread).
He is not some lofty, stony God sitting on a cloud who wants you to grovel and earn your way to heaven. He loves you and as not only the Lord of all creation but also as the perfect Father, he wants to provide abundantly for our needs. Because he is so generous, all we have to do is acknowledge and follow him and we are able to be presented as spotless although we still sin. How sweet is that? To paraphrase what a good friend of ours said at his wedding, "Jesus did not die so that we could be better people. He died because he is in love with us. So that we could be his bride, that we could stand beside him, beautiful, spotless, wearing white." I challenge you to marinate on that for a while.
